Rosa has just toured the country and was devastated by the situation in Uis, Kunene.
It is a beautiful place abundant in natural resources and Wildlife Reservations. It has attracted a lot of foreign investors and there are lucrative mines in the area, but the local people are suffering from dire water and food scarcity.
Some of the Uis residents hadn't had access to water for 2 weeks. Livestock are dying, people are having to scavenge for food or are fleeing for the city, and the infant mortality rate is high.
For 15 years, this region has suffered water scarcity and nothing has been done about it!
This week Rosa contacted an International Team of water experts whose mission is it to support countries to secure water for generations to come. The water within the earth is finite and must be protected, so this organisation work with channeling, preserving and multiplying rainfall while promoting natural eco systems and food resiliency.
They confirmed that Namibia has as much rainfall as Central Europe!! Most if it is wasted in flooding. If protected, there is enough rainfall to enable the whole of Namibia to be water resilient! Water resiliency means food resiliency and restoration!
Rosa and her team are raising funds to pilot this Rain Water harvesting process in Otjikoto. She pioneered a Community Garden project in Otjikoto in 2018 that was very successful until it was hit by drought. So watch this space!
Rosa wants to see systemic change in Namibia and will be focussing on National Grass Root Projects that change lives for generations to come.
